Sister Sledge

I had such a fun night last night. After we stuffed our guts at dinner at Jag in the dub c, my family and I sat and watched American Idol. It felt like such a normal night and I loved it. My aunts and my nephew and my kids and my man and Bailey, all just hanging around. Kids were getting baths, snacks were eaten, the laundry was washing and it was all so not a big deal. I think it was one of the first times in my life it felt like a tv show family night, lots of commotion, lots of noise and lots of different goings on. I am guessing we were the household that FOX is counting on although none of us called 1-866-IDOLS-09. It was a great ending to a great day which included anny gifts of remote control ceiling fans!!! (You're on Steve Bragg!)

So not only did we watch it but we rated the singer after each performance. Connor, Sean, my aunt Susan, my aunt Peggy and I seemed to think that this is the weakest season yet...note: Sean and I have never watched AI before but chimed in with our opinion. While we are great critics, I don't think any of us should audition, unless the original "Who's that knocking on the trunk?" becomes a gigantic platinum hit. Collectively, there was a gal who got a 45/50 but she isn't the family favorite.

She has an oddly familiar face...

Today celebrates the day that feels like centuries and yesterday that I woke up got to marry the man I have loved since I was 16, sure I loved Brian Mennes until I was 11 but that was kid stuff. This man has loved me through, because of and in spite of me. He makes me want to be better, to love better and to live better. He is the encourager, the motivator, the iron to sharpen me and the stealer of my heart. And the butterflies I had that day are back today as I look at him and know more than I have ever known anything that I am the luckiest wife on the Earth.

You can't beat this

I just wonder what could make today much better. After a beautiful weekend, Mondays are great for me to get back into schedule and mode. But today it may be tough...it is supposed to be 83' and sunny and I can't imagine wanting to do anything but go to the park and play with three great kids and one wonderful nephew.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What a great weekend we have coming, the weekend of my family's people. This is one of the few holidays that my husband actually knows the date, this and July 4th.

May those who love us, love us,

and those who don't love us,

may God turn their hearts,

and if he doesn't turn their hearts,

may he turn their ankles...

so we'll know them by their limping.

(Yes Jana, we are Irish.)

An Ode

Peggybell

Peggy, the bell of the ball.

Daily I wait for her call.

There's no better lady

but someday she'll be eighty

and yelling, "Come bring me my shawl!"

The trend in our house

How is it even possible that he has strep again? Once more before school is out and the tonsils take a hike...

A little late but never too little

After a night of little sleep and playing nursemaid, my streptococcus laden 6 year old asked if he could see me in the other room. He was on one knee and handed me this picture and said, "Will you be my Valentine?"

Call me Matilda, said ES-PER-ON-ZA

I had a meeting last night. The distance from my house to the meeting is 6.2 miles. In that 6.2 miles, our almost 2 year old said my name 247 times. That is roughly once every 40 feet, for 6.2 miles. It wasn't always Mommy, there were Mamas, Moms, Maaaaaaas that sounded like Godzilla in a car seat and then when he got super frustrated, he even tried Annie. It wasn't like I was ignoring him for the 6.2 miles either, I would answer his questions or look as he pointed at a car or a raindrop or threw matchbox cars at me or just said hi from the backseat. I was at my limit. I worry about how quickly I will get to my limit today with another snow day and all. Another person home all day who can say Mommy will up those numbers. So if you want to talk to me today, try Morse code or smoke signals, just don't say Annie.

Trendy Tuesday

Well, it was time. It seemed like the thing to do. Besides, everyone else is doing it. The pink was a little old, juvenile, first blogish. It stretched me in my limited computer ways but I think I like it. My goal is to become a little more cyber-savvy. But why is my name weird by Troy?

Kristen, recognize the caption? I wish I could have been there this weekend. I miss your face.

The weekend Murphy

Oh, and in the words of a great woman, technologically savvy I'm not, obviously.

Nothing profound

Another snow day. Hmmmm...
I am trying to not be frustrated with all the time on our hands, the smell of enclosed house, the coldness of outside, little people needing the same toy at the exact same moment, feeling like I am grounded, the binding power of naps. I need to think of some fun things to do lest Griffin and Cooper turn into Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Because of the stage of life we are in, too much time at home becomes less fun and more of a chore. Had we known there would be this many days off school, we would have gone to somewhere hot! Maybe we will turn on the Buffett and crank the heat and put on summer clothes. I think we are on to something...

Not just today...

Happy Valentine's Day!

But I would say, love everyday. If you want to give a card or send flowers or buy a present, don't wait until the all non-magical day of 2/14. That is why I love my husband so much, we don't necessarily "celebrate" Valentines Day. He is so great surprising me and spontaneously loving me and most often, it is exactly when I need it. And I love that he is training our boys to do the same thing.
